Plainsmen Handily Defeat Rams

Nov. 30, 2018, Sterling, Colo. – The Northeastern wrestling team recently hosted the Colorado State University Rams Club wrestling team. The last duel they had was against Colorado School of Mines at which they lost 36-6, but in the time since have had two open tournaments to get in extra mat time to help them prepare for the Rams. Those tournaments and rigorous practices seemed to be the ticket as the Plainsmen blew out the Rams 52-0.

The Plainsmen earned 18 points automatically as the Rams had three forfeits giving Cain Apple, Andrew Sandoval and Hayden Wempen the win. The first match was the 165s with Davonn Keyes representing the Plainsmen. Keyes won the match with a decision score of 11-9. Braeson Lewis wrestled in the 174s and won by technical fall with a score of 16-1. Logan Malouff had to battle in the 197 division, but was able to win with a score of 4-3. In the heavyweight division, Victor Bravo fell behind early, but after an escape and takedown, got the pin to win. In the 141s, Sammy Eckhart won in the first period with a pin. Kyle Cisneros followed it up with a pin in the first 23 seconds of the 149 match-up. To finish it up, Sebastian Robles won by a major decision defeating his opponent 12-2 in the 157s. The Plainsmen's final score of the duel was 52-0, putting their duel record to 2-1.

The men will be on the road this Sunday as they travel to Hays, Kan. to compete in the Bob Smith Open.
