12th Regular Season Win Is Best In Program's History
Northeastern Plainswomen soccer team has a lot to be proud of this season. NJC finished the regular season off last week with a pair of wins on the road which secured their best regular season record in program history while at the same time drawing the 2nd seed in the Region 9 conference. The Plainswomen only had a couple of bumps in the road this season but have been playing very well over the past 8 games in which they have gone 6-1-1. Coach Ken McAlpline stated that this is the programs highest seeding in the playoffs since their shortened season last year where they went into the playoffs as the 4th seed. In securing the 2nd seed, Northeastern now gets to host the Otero Rattlers for their first playoff game of the post season this coming Saturday, October 23rd at 2pm. NJC faced the rival Rattlers twice this season going 1-1. Both games were very close with a 1-0 shutout of the Rattlers and a 2-1 loss in overtime on a tough play that caught the defense out of position.

(Game Recap 10/15) Plainswomen vs. Central Wyoming College = Won 3-1
NJC Goal #1 - At minute 14, Lindsey Harris finds a gap in the defense and passes to Fernanda Rios on the wing, cuts past defender and fires a goal from the 18' box
NJC Goal #2 - At minute 34, a hard free kick from Yanitza Garay gets past the goalkeeper who makes a touch but can't contain, tallying Garay's first goal as a Plainswoman
NJC Goal #3 - At minute 51, Lindsey Harris threads a pass through the defense to a streaking Hailey Pepper who makes a touch and fires a kick past the goalkepper on the near post
CWC Goal #1 - At minute 70, NJC defense over plays the ball and allows an unguarded player to beat goalkeeper on a 1-1 play
Breakdown: NJC seen lots of success in the first half with their wide attack allowing them to get into dangerous scoring opportunities frequently. The second half worked out the same as the attack was constant, breaking down the Central Wyoming defense. Northeastern recorded 10 shots on goal while Plainswoman goalkeeper Anne van den Beitel played solid by saving 6 of the 7 shots on goal by Central.

NJC Goal #1 - At minute 85, Hailey Pepper beats the outside on a 1-1 move, drives down the flank and finds Yadira Ramos in the middle who fires a shot past the goalkeeper for her 8th goal of the season
Breakdown: Again NJC finds success with the wide play. In the first 2 minutes of the game, both Northeastern and Northwest had multiple, quaility shots on goal that were played well by both goalkeepers. Teams went into the lockeroom at halftime with the game tied at 0. Second half was the same with quality shots and passes, just couldn't get it past the keeper. NJC's goalkeeper Hailey Vaughan had a clean game with 7 saves on 7 shots on goal by Northwest College. This is the 8th shutout of the season for women's soccer.
