Plainswomen Conquer Knights

Plainswomen Conquer Knights

In recent volleyball action, the Plainswomen hosted the North Platte Community College Lady Knights.  Last time these teams played in the Pizza Hut Invitational, The Knights were able to edge out the Plainswomen in five sets.  Knowing what to expect and how to approach this game, the two teams geared up for battle.

The first set, the Plainswomen were keeping a hefty lead on the Knights throughout the first half.  After that, they were able to get a point streak rolling when Sofija Pajevic jump served three aces in a row.  From there, NJC dominated the set and won 25-11.

In the second set, the Knights adjusted to what NJC was doing and exposed a few holes in the defense.  The Plainswomen were still able to score points on the Knights, but the Knights were able to capitalize on Northeastern's slow feet and won 25-16.

During the break, Coach Squier was able to regroup the troops and get the girls back to playing Northeastern volleyball.  The girls were able to get quick kills from Kacey Jaeger and some outside bombs from Noel Phillips.  Not to be left out, Ashlyn Martinez came to play and had several kills that kept the Knights guessing.  The Plainswomen eventually won the set 25-10.

In the fourth and final set, the Plainswomen knew that the Knights could weasel a set from them if they weren't careful and didn't stay solid on offense and defense.  The girls were able to do just that and work towards a victory.  Late in the set, substitutions were made which allowed all personnel to get in the game and get some stats in the scorebook.  Northeastern would come away with the victory with a score of 25-13.

The girls will be back in action tomorrow (Wednesday September 27) as they host the Eastern Wyoming Lancers.  Game is set to begin at 7pm.
