Plainswomen Conquer Knights

Sept. 17, 2018, Sterling, Colo. — The Plainswomen volleyball team has been on a long stretch of games in a short amount of time. In the past five days, the ladies have played six games, which helps Northeastern prepare for if they make it to the national tournament. Getting that game experience early in the season in valuable because trying to play that many games later in the season can lead to tired players.

Northeastern hosted the North Platte Knights, which was a great test for the Plainswomen. The match started and in set one Northeastern took a small lead. They stretched that lead as the set progressed, but the Knights started closing it. The Plainswomen didn't fret and finished the set, dominating for a winning 25-13.

In the second set, North Platte gathered their troops and played a much better set. They took the early lead, but Northeastern soon got some kills and took the throne. With the scoreboard reading 13-10, the Plainswomen got on a roll and put together a 12-3 run and defeated the Knights 25-13.

In the third and final set, Northeastern had a tough time pulling away from the Knights with unforced errors. North Platte took advantage and capitalized to keep it within four points the entire set. The Knights then had their own set of mistakes that helped Northeastern rally, but never really being able to pull away. With Northeastern on set point, the Knights brought it back to a tie, 24-24. Kacey Jaeger delivered a few bombs, and helped Northeastern pull away. The final score read 26-24, advantage Northeastern.

The Plainswomen will be on the road in Hutchinson, Kan. this weekend as they play in the Blue Dragon Invitational.
