Plainswomen Volleyball Takes Down #14 Rival Western Nebraska CC

NJC volleyball continues to stay undefeated in conference play for the 2021-22 reguar season.  Rival Western Nebraska Community College, who was currently ranked at 14th in the country before Saturday's game, was in town to battle the Plainswomen.  NJC came off of another conference win earlier in the week against McCook Community College in which the Plainswomen swept the Indians 3-0 at home.  The volleyball team now hovers with a winning record at 11-10 going into their upcoming conference matches against Trinidad State College and Otero Junior College this Friday and Saturday.  Both games are on the road for the Plainswomen, and they will also play a non-conference game against Garden City Community College after facing the Rattlers on the 9th.

Set #1 - WNCC-25 NJC-19 (Loss)

Set #2 - NJC-25 WNCC-23 (Won)

Set #3 - NJC-25 WNCC-22 (Won)

Set #4 - NJC-27 WNCC-25 (Won)

Breakdown: NJC started the match down after losing the 1st set, but came back strong to take 3 consecutive sets from the Cougars.  Each set with the exception of set #1 was a very close, hard fought match, with set #4 taking extra points to win for the Plainswomen.  In the 2nd set, NJC was down again, but several big time blocks from the front line saved the ladies from another set loss.  This match came down to dominating defense for NJC as they tallied 21 blocks, 13 from freshman Sidney Bills, and 82 digs.  Sophomore Mayson Fago came up big again for another double-double recording 10 kills and 19 digs.  Kaytlin Smart added 11 kills to the offensive action while Andie Anderson and Allie Schumacher combined for a total of 34 assists.  Overall the Plainswomen totaled 46 kills with a kill percentage of .111%.
