NJC Splits at the Crystal Inn Tournament

Salt Lake City, Utah...

NJC battled against Utah State University Eastern on Friday, September 2nd in the Crystal Inn Tournament at Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City, UT.  The Plainswomen battled hard, but ultimately fell just short in a 5 set match. The Plainswomen continued to make USUE earn all their points in the 5 set showdown. Leading the pack offensively was freshman Annika Helf with 16 kills and freshman Gabby Oos with 9 kills. NJC was all over the floor with freshman Grace Yoder leading with her 23 digs and sophomore Faith Trenkle adding 13 of her own. Allie Schumacher and Emma Meyer had a combined 43 assists. The Plainswomen started 0-1 in the Crystal Inn Tournament. NJC volleyball is set to play Casper College on Friday, September 2nd.

The Northeastern Volleyball team played against Casper College on Saturday, September 2nd at the Crystal Inn Tournament at Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City, UT. Northeastern walked away with a sweep, which will make the Plainswomen 1-1 on the weekend thus far. The Thunderbirds did not have an answer for the Plainswomen in a quick 3 set match. The Plainswomen had no intention on letting up. Freshman Annika Helf led offensively with 9 kills with redshirt freshman Gabby Oos close behind with 7 kills. The Northeastern defense was led by freshman Grace Yoder with 11 digs. Emma Meyer and Allie Schumacher had a combined 25 assists on the match.  NJC is set to play Central Wyoming College on Saturday, September 3rd.

NJC volleyball started the second day of the Crystal Inn Tournament at Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake, UT with a hard 3 set loss against Central Wyoming College on Saturday, September 3rd. Northeastern started strong against Central Wyoming, only losing by 2 in the first set. The Plainswomen did not have an answer for CWC in set #2, with a raise in energy in set #3, it was not enough to come out with a win. Northeastern was led offensively by Annika Helf with 7 kills and 5 kills from Taylor Wisecamp. Defensively Annika Helf led with 9 digs. Emma Meyer and Allie Schumacher had a combined 20 assists in the match. They are set to play Salt Lake Community College next in the tournament.

After a tough loss, NJC came out with a big three set sweep against the #6 ranked Salt Lake Community College on Saturday, September 3rd. In the first set, the Plainswomen started bleak and it appeared that the Bruins were to take set 1. However, the Plainswomen came out of no-where and took the first set. It was smooth sailing from there as the Bruins did not have an answer for the Plainswomen. NJC was led offensively by Freshmen Annika Helf and Gabby Oos with 10 kills each. Grace Yoder led defensively with 13 digs. Allie Schumacher led in assists with 24 and Emma Meyer following with 15. The Plainswomen are set to play Casper College on Thursday, September 8th to start off the Shelia Worley Tournament.
