Back To Back Wins For NJC Plainsmen

After starting the season 0-3, Northeastern basketball has turned the corner for this month and won back to back games at home.  The Plainsmen competed against Northwest Kansas Technical College on Wednesday night for their first home game of the regular season and then turned around and played Air Force Prep on Thursday night for the Beef Boosters hamburger fry night.  Next up for NJC is the Central Wyoming College Tournament in Riverton where they will face Northwest College Friday afternoon and Central Wyoming at 5pm on Saturday.

(Game Recap 11/10) Plainsmen vs. Northwest Kansas Tech College = Won 76-75

1st Half - NJC found themselves chasing NWKT in scoring as they couldn't buy a basket.  Score at halftime 41-27, NWKT.

2nd Half - The Plainsmen were able to climb back into the match with timely baskets and solid defense.  A basket in the last few seconds won the game for NJC 76-75.

Breakdown: Northeastern has been struggling to get off to good start in the competitions thus far this season.  Unlike the previous three games, NJC was able to keep their energy up and overcome the first half deficits.  The sophomores were dominate in scoring with Jared Adams leading the way with 18, Rashon Barron and Quincey Jewett tallying 14 and Cyler Kane-Johnson scoring 12.  Freshman Obi Agbim came off the bench and put up 10 points.

(Game Recap 11/11) Plainsmen vs. Air Force Prep = Won 88-71

1st Half - Lots of back and forth scoring between the two teams.  High level of excitement and turnover ratios was kept low.  NJC ended the 1st half with the lead.

2nd Half - At times NJC let Air Force Prep keep clawing at their deficit which kept them in the game.  In the end, Northeastern was too much for Air Force Prep and won the game 88-71.

Breakdown: When Northeastern keeps engaged in their offensive system and gets back on defense, they show signs of having success on the court.  Quincey Jewett recorded another double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Sophmore Jared Adams also played solid putting up 20 points.  The story of the night however was sophmore Axel Henry who came off the bench, facemask and all scoring 26 points and leading the Plainsmen.  He went 8-10 from beyond the arc.  Overall NJC had a 56.7 shooting percentage from the field.
