Plainsmen Go 0-2 At CSI Tournament

Plainsmen Go 0-2 At CSI Tournament

Twin Falls, Idaho

For this year's Thanksgiving break, Northeastern traveled up north to Twin Falls to play in the College of Southern Idaho basketball tournament.  During the tournament, NJC faced College of Southern Idaho on Friday, November 26th and Snow College out of Utah on Saturday, November 27th.  Both teams the Plainsmen competed against were in the top 15 nationally with Snow at 11 and CSI at 13.  It is good for Northeastern to play tough teams to get the experience, but also tough as they took back to back loses.  Coming up on December 10th and 11th, NJC heads to Windsor to play a pair of Wyoming teams in the North/South tournament.  On the 10th, NJC plays Central Wyoming at 4pm and on the 11th, they battle Western Wyoming at 8pm.

(Game Recap 11/26) Plainsmen vs. College of Southern Idaho = Loss 91-64

1st Half - NJC struggled to get points on the board as they were almost outscored by double.  Halftime score was 44-24 CSI.

2nd Half - A much more balanced half, but allowed a lot of second half points, unable to cut the deficit.  Score ended 91-64.

Breakdown: Bottom line is that NJC shot very poorly over the course of the game.  Northeastern shot 28.8% from the field overall and even worse at 8-31 from beyond the arc.  Leading the Plainsmen in scoring was sopohmore Cyler Kane-Johnson with 17 points while Quincey Jewett tallied 10.  NJC was out rebounded 55-47, but had 4 less turnovers than CSI.  Plainsmen defense has to make a lot of improvements, they cannot keep trying to just out score their opponents.

(Game Recap 11/27) Plainsmen vs. Snow College = Loss 78-68

1st Half - NJC was able to keep the scoring pretty even with the 11th ranked Snow College.  Halftime score was 36-34 in favor of Snow.

2nd Half - The starting 5 for Snow was able to score consistently all second half as all but 1 starter was in double figures.  Final score was 78-68.

Breakdown: Plainsmen were able to put together a couple solid halves of scoring and defensive play.  NJC allowed Snow to have a couple different scoring runs during the game that created a deficit that Northeastern couldn't overcome.  Although it wasn't a win, it was a good effort against a quality team who is ranked nationally.
