Northeastern Sweeps Home Opener

NJC baseball won their home opening series for the 2022 season at Plainsmen Park.  After starting the season down in Arizona, it was nice to get the players into some familar territory as they played and swept the CSU Club baseball team in 3 games this past weekend.  In what will be a longer home stand for Northeastern, they turn around and play a 4 game series (2 double headers) against Miles Community College on Saturday (19th) and Sunday (20th).  Games times are slated for a 12:30pm and 2pm first pitch on both days.

(Game Recap 2/11) Plainsmen vs. CSU Club = Won 13-3

Breakdown: NJC went on a tear to start the game.  Plainsmen were up 10 by the end of the 3rd inning.  Sage Ferguson took the mound pitching 3 innings, striking out 4 and had no earned runs.  It was his 1st win of the season.  Jackson Trout went 2-2 at the plate with a double and a RBI.  Calvin Davis went 2-4 in the game with an RBI.  Caleb Rozier went 1-2 with a walk and 2 RBI's.  Cannon Greene had 1 at-bat and homered.  NJC recorded 13 hits in the win.

(Game Recap 2/12) Plainsmen vs. CSU Club = Won 9-1

Breakdown: NJC got off to a nice start with a 4-0 lead after 3 innings.  Clay Sanger got his 3rd start of the season and was able to get his 1st win.  Clay pitched 4 solid innings recording only 1 earned run while striking out 8 and walking 1.  Alex Alva went 3-4, recording 3 hits, a RBI and 5 stolen bases.  Charlie Hilgers got a pair of hits including a double and 2 stolen bases.  Calvin Davis went 1-3 at the plate tallying a triple on that hit.  Northeastern drew 5 walks and totaled 9 hits.  CSU Club struck out 12 times to the Plainsmen's 2.  Antwone Boone-Suarez pitched two innings for NJC and had 4 strike outs.

(Game Recap 2/12) Plainsmen vs. CSU Club = Won 10-0

Breakdown: Game was called in 5 innings.  NJC made quick work of the CSU Club team as they had a monster 3rd inning scoring 6, giving them the 8-0 lead after 3.  Stevins Spurgeon got the call to take the start, his 2nd of the season.  After a crafty 3 innings of pitching which resulted in 4 strikeouts and no earned runs, he went on to take his 1st win.  Northeastern had a great game from the plate as they homered 3 times and recorded 8 RBI's.  Jackson Trout went yardball and had a double in his 2-2 performance at the plate, also getting 2 RBI's.  Cameron Leach had a breakout game as he went 2-3 with a homerun, 3 RBI's and 2 stolen bases.  The Plainsmen recorded 9 hits and only 3 strikeouts in the win.
