Plainsmen Win 10th Game

Last week the Plainsmen baseball team faced Lamar Community College in a conference battle which included two days of double headers.  Northeastern has been playing better baseball as of late and showed similar signs as they won 3 of 4 in the end of the week battle, bumping up their regular season win category to 10.  Next up NJC travels to southern Colorado as they face Adams State University JV in Alamosa for a 4 game road stand, then play Trinidad State College in a 4 game road stand the week after.

(Game Recap 3/3) Plainsmen vs. Lamar CC = Loss 7-5

Breakdown: Close game for the Plainsmen.  Game was tied going into the 7th inning, but NJC gave up 2 runs and couldn't answer which was the score difference.  Clay Sanger took the mound in the start going 4 innings, facing 18 batters, giving up 3 earned runs, walking 5 and striking out 3.  Zach Boone went 2-3 from the plate which included a solo shot.  Second baseman Trey Adams had a single that got him 2 RBI's.  Northeastern had a total of 4 hits and 6 strikeouts.

(Game Recap 3/3) Plainsmen vs. Lamar CC = Won 5-4

Breakdown: NJC found themselves down early, but made a comeback and scored a couple late runs to solidify their win.  Sophomore Mason Sauter had a big game from the plate as he went 2-3 that included a homerun and 3 RBI's.  Alex Alva and Calvin Davis each had a sacrifice fly that knocked in a run each.  Cole Adams had a solid outing on the mound as he pitched 6 innings, struck out 3 and gave up 3 earned runs against the 24 batters he faced.  Northeastern drew 5 walks in the contest compared to Lamar's 3.

(Game Recap 3/4) Plainsmen vs. Lamar CC = Won 7-5

Breakdown: A big 6th inning is what led the Plainsmen to their 2nd win of the weekend.  Lamar was scoring slow and steady, but wasn't enough to defeat NJC.  Sage Ferguson took the start for NJC.  He went 5.1 innings, faced 22 batters, struck out 5 and gave up 4 hits.  Pitcher Mark Thurman ended up taking the win in the end.  Jaylan Ruffin went 2-4 from the plate with 2 RBI's and a stolen base.  Kaben Steenbock knocked in 2 runs on his only hit of the game.  NJC had 7 hits in the game.

(Game Recap 3/4) Plainsmen vs. Lamar CC = Won 5-1

Breakdown: NJC took the lead early on a big 3rd inning and never looked back.  Stevins Spurgeon went on to get his 3rd win of the season on the mound.  He pitched 5 innings and struck out 5 giving up no runs.  Northeastern was able to steal 6 bases in the game which helped keep the scoing going.  Trey Adams, Zach Boone and Caleb Rozier each had 1 RBI during the contest.
