NJC Wins Southeast Series, heads to Otero for Cross Division Playoffs

The Northeastern baseball team will be traveling to La Junta, Coloradao later this week to compete in the Cross Division playoffs.  A best-of-three game series will take place with games slated to be played on Thursday (5/4) at 2pm, Friday (5/5) at 12pm and an "if game" at 3pm.  Winner of the series will move onto the Region 9 Baseball tournament and the loser will have their 22-23 season come to an end.

Game Recap Plainsmen vs. Southeast CC - 4/28

Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 17-0 loss to Southeast Community College Storm on Friday. Southeast Community College Storm scored on a home run by Danny Spongberg in the first inning, a home run by Tyler Bishop in the first inning, a error in the second inning, and a single by Tyler Palmer in the second inning. The Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Southeast Community College Storm, giving up 17 runs. Southeast Community College Storm opened up scoring in the first inning. Spongberg hit a solo homer. One bright spot for Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen was a single by Tomas Ricny in the second inning. Caneron Teinert got the win for Southeast Community College Storm. The righty surrendered zero runs on four hits over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Levi Gates threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Brian Walters took the loss for Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out six and walking one. Southeast Community College Storm mashed three home runs on the day. Bishop went deep in the first inning. Landon Goeser had a dinger in the sixth inning. Spongberg had a four bagger in the first inning. RicnyMax ValerioLogan Heath, and Jackson Trout all had one hit to lead Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen.

Jaylan Ruffin drove in five on two hits to lead Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen past Southeast Community College Storm 17-13 on Saturday. Ruffin drove in runs on a double in the second and a home run in the fifth. The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen collected 14 hits and Southeast Community College Storm Varsity had 12. Southeast Community College Storm got things started in the first inning. Southeast Community College Storm scored two runs when Tyler Bishop singled. Southeast Community College Storm scored four runs in the seventh inning. Will BarrettDanny Spongberg, and Max Petersen each had RBIs in the big inning. Nick Anaya earned the win for Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen. The bulldog allowed five hits and five runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one. Noah SoperHurlburt, and Chase McCreath all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.

Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen stole the lead late in the game in a 12-11 victory over Southeast Community College Storm on Saturday. The game was tied at ten with Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen batting in the top of the tenth when Jackson Trout hit a solo homer. Max Valerio led Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen to victory by driving in five runs. Valerio went 3-for-5 at the plate. Valerio drove in runs on a home run in the third, a home run in the fifth, and a wild pitch in the tenth. Southeast Community College Storm captured the lead in the first inning when Avery Moore homered on a 1-2 count, scoring four runs. Southeast Community College Storm evened things up at ten in the bottom of the ninth inning when Tyler Palmer hit a solo homer. Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen notched three runs in the fifth inning. Trout and Valerio each had RBIs in the frame. Edyn Barber was the winning pitcher for Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen. The fireballer lasted three innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out five. Cole JonesChase McCreath, and Clay Sanger all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. McCreath recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen.
