Northeastern Baseball Finds Their First Victory of the Year, Downing NMMI 16-3

Northeastern Baseball gets into the winners circle for the first time in 2025, after they took down New Mexico Military Institute 16-3 on Sunday. Matt Yarish was named the DDC Player of the Contest. Yarish went 3.1 innings, giving up one hit, striking out two and walking one.

Tanner Peerey's bat was on fire, being able to drive in four runs on two hits in the contest. Peerey singled in the seventh inning scoring three runs, hit a solo home run in the sixth, scoring one run and walked in the eighth inning, scoring one run. Northeastern was able to get on the board first when Brendan Clelland singled, scoring one run. Max Valerion singled to left side of the infield on 0-2 count, which helped the Plainsmen tie the game at two in the top of the third. Northeastern took the lead in the top of the fifth inning after Brayden Stufft singled to center, Zach McVay walked and Aniel Del Orbe hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. The Plainsmen scored 6 runs in the top of the eighth inning. Valerio singled, Peerey drew a walk, and Harrison Good drew a walk, each scoring one run. Yusei Uzawa doubled, scoring three runs. 

Matt Yarish earned the win for the Plainsmen. Cameron Ochoa started the game for Northeastern. Ochoa went 1.2 innings, giving up one earned run on zero hits, striking out one and walking four. Brayden Stork came in and threw 1.1 innings, giving up one unearned run, on three hits, striking out two and walking one. Tony Slizowski pitched .2 innings, giving up one earned run on zero hits, striking out two and walking two. Sebastian Miranda gave up one hit, striking out one and walking one. 

The Plainsmen piled on 11 hits in the contest. Uzawa went 3-5 to lead Northeastern in hits. Valerio went 2-2 in the contest. Stufft led the Plainsmen with three walks. Stufft also led Northeastern with two steals, the team had a total of 6 on the day. 

Northeastern will be back in action again on February 15th, as they welcome in Miles Community College for the home opener of the season at 12:00 PM.
