Northeastern Baseball's Bats Were on Fire As They Took Down CSU 22-8 In The Second Game of The Four Game Series

Northeastern Baseball took care of business against CSU in the second game of the four game series, as they took down the Rams 22-8. Lewis Coonts was named the DDC Player of the Contest. Coonts went 3-4 at the plate, collecting three doubles, driving in three runs and scoring four runs. 

Even though the Plainsmen won they game, they were behind 4-0 after the top of the first inning. Northeastern made the score 4-2 in the bottom of the first when Yusei Uzawa hit a solo home run to left field, and Aniel Del Orbe hit into a fielder's choice, both scoring one run. The Rams extended their lead to 5-2 in the top of the second inning. The Plainsmen flipped the game on it's head in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs on seven hits, to take the lead 9-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Brayden Stufft that drove in two runs. A walk by Del Orbe extended the lead to 10-5 in the bottom of the third inning. 

The Plainsmen went wild in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring 12 runs on 7 hits. Uzawa doubled, scoring one run, Coonts doubled, scoring one run, Zach McVay drew a walk, scoring one run, Hayden Swaen doubled, scoring two runs, Hudson Hoy singled, scoring one run, Coonts doubled again, scoring two runs, Stufft singled, scoring two runs and Swaen singled, scoring one run. Evan Gail ended up earning the win for the Plainsmen. Gail came in in relief and threw 1.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on one hit, walking four and striking out two. CJ Gonzales started the game for Northeastern. Gonzales went 1.1 innings, giving up 5 runs (four earned) on four hits, walking three and striking out three. Deacon Trenkle threw one inning, giving up no hits and striking out one batter. Ondrej Vank ended the game for the Plainsmen, throwing one inning and striking out the side. 

The Plainsmen accumulated 17 hits in the game. Uzawa and Coonts were a force in the lineup together, as they both recorded three hits each. Stufft and Swaen both drove in four runs in the contest. McVay, Hoy and Andres Johnson each collected multiple hits in the contest. Caleb Dennis paced Northeastern with two walks. The team had patience at the plate, as they tallied 7 total walks in the contest. The Plainsmen stole 6 bases in the contest, Stufft had the most with two.
