
Northeastern Baseball Picks Up Second Win In A Row Over CSU 15-5
Northeastern Baseball continued it's winning ways against CSU, as they took down the Rams 15-5 in the third game of the four game series. Tanner Peerey was named the DDC Player of the Contest. Peerey went 3-3 at the plate, leaving the yard twice for two home runs, hitting one double, drove in three runs and scored three runs.
Northeastern scored 8 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on their way to victory. Peerey hit a solo home run to left field, Max Valerio homered to left field, scoring two runs, Hudson Hoy homered to left field, scoring two runs, Peerey doubled, socirng one run and Yusei Uzawa singled, scoring two runs. The Rams opened the scoring in the top of the first, driving in one run on a single. In the the bottom of the first inning, the Plainsmen took the lead after Brayden Stufft doubled to left field, and Zach McVay hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. CSU took the one more time in the top of the third, when they scored three runs, making the score 4-2.
Hoy tripled, which helped the Plainsmen tie the game at four in the bottom of the third inning. Northeastern took the lead once again in the bottom of the fourth inning after Peerey homered to left field, and McVay laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run. Makoy Lucero ended up taking the win for the Plainsmen. Lucero came in in relief, throwing 2.2 innings, giving up just two hits, walking three batters and striking out three. Matt Yarish started the game for Northeastern. Yarish went 2.1 innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on 6 hits, walking one and striking out three. Cameron Ochoa ended the game, throwing one inning, giving up one earned run on one hit and striking out one batter.
The Plainsmen amassed 16 hits in the contest. Hoy drove the middle of the lineup, leading Northeastern with four runs batted in. Peerey and Hoy each collected three hits in the contest. Stufft, Uzawa, Michael Clark and Valerio each collected multiple hits for the Plainsmen. Uzawa stole two bases.
