
Northeastern Baseball Wins On A Walk Off To Sweep It's Way Past The Otero Rattlers 12-11. Plainsmen Start 4-0 In Region IX Play
Northeastern Baseball made it a thrilling finish, as they took down Otero 12-11 on the last game of the four game series in walk off fashion. Hudson Hoy may have been the hero at the end of the day, but the performance by Evan Gail on the mound is what shone brightly for the Plainsmen. Gail threw 3.2 innings in relief, giving up only three hits, walking two batters and striking out 6. Gail ended up earning the win for the Plainsmen.
The Plainsmen were the first to get on the board in the bottom of the first when Max Valerio doubled, scoring one run. The Rattlers then took the lead in the top of the second, making the score 4-1. Northeastern tied the game back up in the bottom of the third thanks to a solo home run by Clark and a double by Carson Sauter. Otero captured the lead 8-4 in the top of the fourth. Harrison Good homered to left field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Plainsmen tied the game once again in the bottom of the eighth thanks a home run to left field by Clark and a single by Good.
With the game tied 11-11 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Hoy came to the plate. The bases were loaded and Hoy hit a grounder to first base, but throw was off at home and the Plainsmen won in walk off fashion.
Cameron Ochoa started the game for Northeastern. Ochoa threw three innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits and walking four batters. CJ Gonzales had 2.1 innings of work, giving up 7 runs (two earned) on three hits and walking three batters. Gail came in and shut the Rattlers down and earned the win for the Plainsmen. The Plainsmen tallied 17 hits in the contest. Good led the team with four runs batted in. Tanner Peerey, Good, Brendan Clelland and Hoy each collected three hits for Northeastern. Clelland and Hoy each stole multiple bases in the contest. The Plainsmen defense turned three double plays on the day.
