
Northeastern Baseball's Bats Catch Fire, As They Take Down Lamar Community College 20-12 In the Second Game of the Friday Double Header
Northeastern Baseball showed why they are one of the best offensive teams in the country, as they took down Lamar Community College 20-12 in the second game of the Friday double header. Tony Slizowski was named the DDC Player of the Game. Slizowski came in and shut down a very potent Runnin' Lopes offense. Slizowski went 6.2 innings earning the win, giving up two earned runs on four hits, walking three and striking out 9 batters.
Tanner Peerey was almost unstoppable as he hit two home runs and drove in four runs for the Plainsmen. Peerey homered in the second and fifth innings. Northeastern collected a total of 17 hits in the contest. Lamar was the first to get on the board, as they scored three run in the top of the first inning. Northeastern tied the game up in the bottom of the first thanks to a ground out by Zach McVay and a triple by Carson Sauter. In the bottom of the second inning, the Plainsmen broke the tie when Peerey homered to left field, scoring three runs. Then a ground out by Max Valerio followed to extend the lead to 7-2. The Runnin' Lopes flipped the game on it's head in the top of the third, scoring 7 runs on four hits to take the 10-7 lead.
Northeastern tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks an error, a single by Brayden Stufft and a sacrifice fly by Valerio. Lamar then scored a run in the fourth and fifth inning to make the scored 12-10. The Plainsmen took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring 5 runs on four hits. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Michael Clark that drove in three runs. Two more Northeastern runs came across in the bottom of the sixth inning. Stufft hit a solo home run to left field and an error scored one run. Northeastern scored one run in the bottom of the eighth when McVay homered on the sixth pitch of his at bat to drive in one run.
Makoy Lucero started the game for Northeastern. Lucero went 2.1 innings, giving up 10 runs (three earned) on 7 hits, walking three and striking out two. Stufft, Peerey and Clark each collected three hits for the Plainsmen. Stufft and Peerey were tough to handle back-to-back as they each drove in four runs. Sauter, McVay and Valerio each collected multiple hits in the contest. Yusei Uzawa led the team with three walks. The team had a strong eye at the plate as they accumulated 13 walks for the game. Uzawa also stole four bases in the contest.
