Northeastern Competes at Torrington

The Northeastern golf teams traveled to Torrington to play in the Eastern Wyoming's Tournament. With there only being a few tournaments left, the men are trying to place as high as they can to qualify themselves individually for the national tournament, and the women are fine tuning their skills before they head to nationals. The last week has been tough for Northeastern to practice outside with inclement weather blasting the Sterling area, so they had to rely on their instincts and hope for the best.

With the majority of the week being dedicated to working on their short game indoors, the scores would reflect that for some of the players at the tournament, whereas others took that time to refine their short game and step up come tee off. The first day's round for the men, the field was fairly tight as the vast majority of the field was within five strokes of each other. Bradon Baxter and Brett Mattson would both shoot an 80, which would put them at 12th place after the first round. Logan Wood shot an 89, Tate Higgins a 94, and Bryce Bivins would finish with a 97. The second round's scores would vary between individuals, but placing would stay within one or two places for them. Once it was all said and done, Bradon Baxter would finish tied for 12th, Logan Wood and Brett Mattson would finished tied for 27th, Tate Higgins would finish tied for 33rd, and Bryce Bivins would finish 35th. Overall as a team, the Plainsmen would finish in sixth place.

On the women's side, a few girls took the indoor time to hone in on their short game, which would show as they placed higher in the tournament. The first day, Jessica Salazar would shoot a 99, which would put her in second place, only six shots off the leader. Next would be Caitlyn Jacobs for the Plainswomen, who would shoot a 107 and put her in third place. Baily Kreider would shoot a 111, setting her up in the fifth slot for the round. Rachel Rael would post a 120, which would be dramatically improved on in the second round. The next day would come, and with the women now knowing how course was laid out, they had a chance at improving their scores. At the end of the tournament, Jessica Salazar would finish in second place, Caitlyn Jacobs in fourth, Baily Kreider in fifth, and Rachel Rael in sixth. The women would finish at the top spot again, which helps them once again for the National Tournament.

The tournament on the 26 and 27th of April at Riverton will be Northeastern's final regular season tournament. The women will then head to the national tournament. A few of the Plainsmen golfers look to place high enough to allow them to qualify as individuals for their national tournament.
