Plainsmen Lose After Having Two Goal Lead

The Northeastern soccer team traveled to the southern part of Colorado for a game against the Otero Rattler in Region IX conference play.  Last time these teams played here in Sterling, the Rattlers were able to get the lone goal of the game in the 69 minute.  The Plainsmen knew that they could outplay them; it would come down to who could put together a complete 90 minutes.

In the first half, it was Dani van Steijn who would receive the pass from Joseph Godoy and give the Plainsmen the 1-0 only 38 seconds into the game.  With the first half ticking away and the Plainsmen holding the 1-0 lead, Jean Carre was able to set up a beautiful cross to Paul Liagre for him to head it in; Plainsmen up 2-0 in the 30^th minute of the game.  The next fifteen minutes would tick away and NJC would be up 2-0 at half.

The second half would shape up to be completely different then the first.  It looked as if the Plainsmen would be able to walk away with the win, but in the 60^th minute, Otero would start chipping away at Northeastern's lead by scoring making it a 2-1 game.  Shortly after the Rattlers first goal, one of their players would earn themselves a straight red card, giving the Plainsmen a man advantage for the remainder of the game.  It would not impact the Rattlers any because in the 86^th minute, they would get the equalizer making it a 2-2 game.  With little to no time left, the Plainsmen knew they had to do something, and do it fast.  What they were not wanting to do, is exactly what they did; let the Rattlers score.  In the 88^th minute, Otero would get the game winner, handing the Plainsmen their seventh loss of the year.

The Plainsmen will be back in action against Trinidad the next day looking to get some redemption on the Trojans.
