Northeastern Victorious in Home Opener

Sterling, Colo...

The Northeastern men's soccer program opened their first home match of the 2022 season hosting Western Nebraska. Northeastern improve their overall record to 2-2 on Friday, August 26th after a back-and-forth match against rivals, WNCC.  The Plainsmen were taking on a WNCC team who had the 2021 Region IX Freshmen of the Year back on the Cougar's squad and was a striker to keep an eye on.  Northeastern was able to execute on a set piece which was scored by Martin Launay and assisted by Sebastian Palmer in the 74th minute of the match.  That goal ended up being the deciding factor as Northeastern were able to hang on to keep the clean sheet and win in their home opener.

Coach Chance Vang:

"We had an excellent start to the game bringing a lot of energy which gave us some confidence settling into the match.  It was an outstanding defensive performance from the entire team to help slow down a talented attack that Western Nebraska had last year.  Along with that, I am happy with the opportunities we created in the attacking third with 9 shots on goal and 9 corner kicks.  I felt like we executed and did well in all phases of the game and this was a true team win.  The lads did a wonderful job to bounce back from the last match and we are pleased to earn 3 points from our first home match of the year."
