Desiree Perales Gets Region IX Player of the Week

Sterling, Colo...

Northeastern softball sophomore Desiree Perales got the Region IX Player of the Week nod as she had a solid week of the season at the plate.  Perales comes to NJC from Pueblo, Colorado and plays catcher for the Plainswomen.  During the past week of the 2023 regular season for the Plainswomen, they played Western Nebraska in a 5-game series.  This is the 2nd Plainswoman to receive the Region IX Player of the Week award of the season.

During the week, Perales played 5 games during the 7-day stretch.  In those games, Perales went to the plate 14 times, got a hit in 8 of those at-bats.  Those 8 hits included 2 doubles, 2 homerun's and 12 RBI's and a batting average of .571.  On top of the stellar batting, Desiree was able to throw out a WNCC runner at 3rd base to get the last out in a very close game.  Overall this season, Desiree has a .455 batting average, .476 on-base percentage and a .818 slugging percentage.

Northeastern needs players like Perales to continue the big play as the season progresses to give the team a threat in the lineup in which other teams will have to be aware of.

Congrats to NJC catcher Desiree Perales on being named Player of the Week for Region IX!  Keep up the great work!

The Plainswomen take on Otero College this coming Thursday (2pm), Friday (1pm & 3pm) and Saturday (12pm & 2pm).
