
Northeastern Falls In A Close Fought Contest to Seward County Community College 5-4
Northeastern Softball drops a heart breaker to Seward County Community College 5-4 in 7 innings. Ryann Mergelman was named the DDC Player of the Contest. Mergelman went 2-4 in the contest, recording one double, one run batted in and had 10 put outs at first base.
A single by Addison Steele put the Plainswomen up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. Seward County was able to push across three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Seward was able to score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Northeastern scored one run each in the top of the sixth and seventh, but it was a little too late as they ended up falling 5-4. Mackenzie Bowie started in the circle for the Plainswomen. Bowie ended up taking the loss, as she went 6 innings giving up 5 runs (four earned) on 8 hits, walking four and striking out one.
The number nine hitter Mergelman showed the depth of the Plainswomen's lineup, by leading the team with two hits in four at bats. Tatiana Hunt, Maddie Westmoreland and Steele each drove in a run for Northeastern. The Plainswomen had a strong eye at the plate, as they were able to tally four walks in the contest.
