Northeastern Softball Drops Region IX Home Opener to McCook Community College

It's always a special day when you can open up Region IX play at home. Northeastern opened up their Region IX season against McCook Community College and sadly ended up dropping the game 11-0. Brian Schaefer, the Event Center Manager and Mr. Do It All for Northeastern Athletics threw out the honorary first pitch before the game, it was also the first game with the new Mason Field Scoreboard. Reina Roberts was named the DDC Player of the Contest. Roberts was able to go 1-3 in the contest, collecting a double. 

McCook opened up their scoring in the top of the third inning after gaining four runs thanks to two singles and a walk. The Indians then went on to score another two runs in the top of the fifth inning and added 5 more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Reagan Fehringer started in the circle for Northeastern and ended up taking the loss in the contest. Fehringer went 6.2 innings, fiving up 11 runs (9 earned) on 17 hits, walking four and striking out one. Maddie Cline came in for .1 inning of relief, giving up one hit. Roberts, Mikeayla Llamas and Addison Steele all collected one hit in the contest for the Plainswomen.
