
Northeastern Softball Celebrates Sophomore Day and Picks Up The Win Against Trinidad State College 9-8 In The Final Game of the Year
Northeasten Softball picks up a win in the final game of the season against Trinidad State College 9-8 on Sophomore Day. Isabella Bencivenga was named the DDC Player of the Game. Bencivenga went 2-4 at the plate, scoring one run and driving in one run in the contest.
The Plainswomen got out to a 6 run lead in the fourth inning and was able to hold on for the 9-8 victory in the end. Northeastern was the first to get on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Addison Steele singled, scoring one run. The Plainswomen flipped the game on it's head in the bottom of the third inning, scoring 7 runs on four hits to take the lead 8-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Bencivenga on full count that drove in two runs.
Reagan Fehringer started in the circle and ended up earning the win in her final game as a Plainswomen. Fehringer went all 7 innings, giving up 8 runs (four earned) on 13 hits, walking three batters and striking out 7. Fehringer finished the game off with a strike out looking to finish off her softball career. The Plainswomen piled up 11 hits in the contest. Ryan Mergelman led the team with two runs batted in. Bencivenga, Kelsi Jurczewsky, Mergelman and Steele each collected mutiple hits in the game. Ryann Eurich led the team with two walks. Jurczewsky, Mikeayla Llamas, Tatiana Hunt and Steele each stole multiple bases.
The team says good bye to four sophomores, Isabella Bencivenga, Blayke Duncan, Reagan Fehringer and Ryann Eurich. We will miss the sophomores very much and look forward to what they do in their futures. The team is excited to see growth from the freshman coming back next year and are excited to see what the incoming freshman have to offer for next year.
