Plainswomen Fall In Close Battle to the Trojans

Plainswomen Fall In Close Battle to the Trojans

In their final game of the first semester, the Plainswomen traveled to Trinidad State to play the Trojans in a Region IX conference game.  The ladies of Northeastern were looking to go out to break on the right foot with a win.  For the Plainswomen to win, they needed to limit the Trojans post play and pound it in the paint.  Northeastern's post play was much more dominant, but missed layups would cost the Plainswomen down the stretch.

In the first quarter, the Plainswomen found themselves behind only by six, but with plenty of game left to play, they knew if the stuck to their game plan, it would be a breeze.  In the second however, the women found themselves a little further behind as they were outscored 23-15.  At half, the Plainswomen would trail the Trojans 39-25.

During half, the women knew they would be all right because they were following their game plan.  If they were able to get the Trojan's post players out of the game in foul trouble, they would be able to make a comeback.  With that in their sight, the women went back out in the second half with their heads held high.

In the second, the Plainswomen had the hot hand and were able to cut back on the Trojans lead.  Northeastern was able to outscore their opponent 23-12, but knew there was still one more quarter left to play.  In the fourth, the game plan had been executed by having their big foul out, all they had to do was start scoring points.  That would eventually be what would cost the Plainswomen as they could not buy a basket.  With the whistle blowing to signal the end of the game, the Plainswomen would fall to the Trojans 66-58.

Tashika Burrell would lead the Plainswomen in scoring with 14 points.  Kiara McElroy would be the next with 13 points.  Having a solid game on both ends would be Katie Diakhaby with a double-double as she scored 12 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

The Plainswomen are off for the holiday break and will be back in action in the New Year as they host Otero on January 5.
