Bio

Coach Gabe Wiest is an accomplished assistant coach with a strong background in both education and coaching. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and his Master’s degree in Sport Psychology from Fresno State. Coach Gabe’s academic background has provided him with a deep understanding of both the physical and mental aspects of sports, which he brings to his coaching.

Coach Gabe began his coaching career at Fresno Adventist Academy (FAA) from 2010 to 2019, where he coached students from elementary school to high school in various sports, including football, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. His broad experience across different age groups and sports has equipped him with versatile coaching skills and a comprehensive approach to athlete development.

He then moved on to Fresno High School (FHS), where he served from 2017 to 2019. During his tenure, he led the team to significant achievements, including becoming the first team in school history to win a state playoff game and securing consecutive appearances in the state playoffs.

Following his success at FHS, Coach Gabe coached at Northeastern Junior College (NJC) from 2020 to 2022 as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. At NJC, he recruited three players who went on to play Division I basketball, showcasing his talent for identifying and developing top-tier talent. His ability to develop players was evident as every athlete he coached went on to play at the next level or professionally.

Most recently, Coach Gabe has been an integral part of the coaching staff at San Jose State University (SJSU) from 2022 to 2024. He initially served as the Director of Basketball Operations before transitioning into the role of video coordinator.

Now, Coach Gabe is excited to return to Northeastern Junior College (NJC) to continue his coaching career. He brings with him a wealth of experience and a renewed passion for developing athletes and leading them to success. Coach Gabe is eager to build on his previous tenure at NJC and ready to go for the upcoming season.

Originally from Fresno California, Coach Gabe is passionate about fostering a competitive and supportive environment for his players. His commitment to excellence and his comprehensive approach to coaching have made him a respected figure in the basketball community.
