Women's Soccer Improves to 2-1 in Conference Play

Northeastern women's soccer (5-3, 2-1) captured their second straight Region IX Conference win against Central Community College-Columbus with a 2-0 victory on Friday, Sept. 20.

The match was evenly paced through the first half, with both teams playing more direct and equally intense.  The Plainswomen kept the Raider's keeper busy with several shots on goal.  As the first half progressed, Northeastern began to control the tempo and pace of the match.  With this upturn in tempo, the Plainswomen were able to create more shots on goal opportunities.

Heading into half time with a 0-0 draw, Northeastern relied more on defensive pressure to start the second half to create more chances on the Central side of the pitch.  The stifling pressure resulted in numerous shots on goal with the breakthrough goal in the 80th minute.  Freshman Rowan Horstmeier's cross found the head of fellow freshman Fernanda Rios at the far post for her third goal of the season.  Seven minutes later, freshman, Yadira Ramos added her seventh goal of the season to seal the 2-0 victory on a through pass from sophomore Kennedie Brumbelow.

Northeastern outshot Central 22-3 and recorded the third clean sheet of the season.  The Plainswomen return home on Friday, Sept. 27th against Sheridan.
