Timely Kills Catapult Plainswomen to Victory

In a two game home stand, the Plainswomen hosted the Eastern Wyoming Lancers at the Bank of Colorado Event Center.  The last time these teams met up in Torrington, the Plainswomen were able to sweep the Lancers in three sets.  Just like any other team, the Lancers had adjusted their game plan and were ready to joust with the Plainswomen.

In the first set, Northeastern fell behind early and were not able to regain the lead, which lead to the 25-22 loss.  It was then when the Plainswomen knew that this would be a much different team then what they had played before.

In the second set, the Plainswomen were able to rally together and score some timely kills to give them the 25-19 win for that set.  Although they won the set over the Lancers, it was a tough match-up until the end when NJC was able to pull away.

After a brief intermission, the teams gathered back to the court to duke it out again.  Now that both teams had to see what each other had, this set was up for grabs.  With the game going back and forth, the Plainswomen were able to get behind a few of Noel Phillips kills and get the set 25-20.

With the game on the line for Northeastern, and the Lancers scratching to force it into a fifth set, the crowd knew this set could get interesting.  Every point for either team seemed to be the point that could give them the edge, but was never the case.  Every ball was being dug and rallies were being extended by superb defensive efforts.  It wasn't until the end of the set when the Plainswomen were able to pull away and get the victory 25-22.

The girls will be off for a week with their next game being at home against Lamar CC in a great Region IX match-up.  Game is set to be played at 7pm.
