Martinez Will Continue Playing at East Central University

Feb. 13, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — The most recent student-athlete to sign their National Letter of Intent for the Plainswomen volleyball team was Ashlyn Martinez. Martinez signed to play for the East Central University Tigers in Ada, Okla. The Tigers are a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II school and are a part of the Great American Conference. 

Martinez is originally from LaSalle, Colo. and attended Valley High School. During her time as a Plainswomen, she accumulated 430 kills, 136 digs, and 537 points as a middle and right side hitter. Additionally, as a sophomore she helped her team win the Region IX and play at the National Tournament. 

Head coach Melissa Anderson knew she was getting a good player when she saw her play. "Ashlyn caught our eye because of her heavy hand behind the ball and unmatched competitiveness," she said. "Although she is a bit undersized in the middle she continues to get stronger and still has plenty of room to grow as a player."

Martinez will graduate this spring with her associate's degree and will begin her training to play for the Tigers this summer.
