Plainswomen Finish Season at Nationals

Northeastern Junior College volleyball headed to West Plains, MO for the National tournament for the fifth consecutive year over the duration of last week. The Plainswomen came in to face off against the hosting team, the #5 Missouri State University- West Plains on Thursday, Nov 17th. NJC was not able to find their rhythm against West Plains in sets one and two, but were able to find some momentum in set three. Ultimately, NJC was unable to take a set away from West Plains and lost in a three-set sweep. Northeastern is set to play Blinn College on Friday, Nov 18th.

Breakdown: The Northeastern Plainswomen set out to West Plains, MO as they have qualified for the fifth consecutive year. The Plainswomen faced Missouri West Plains in the first round. After coming out strong the first few points, the Plainswomen quickly lost control of the match, losing sets one and two and being held to under 20 points. However, the Plainswomen settled down in set three, but it was not enough as they lost 22-25 and lost their chances of a National Tittle in a three set sweep. The Plainswomen were led offensively by Gabby Oos with 8 kills and were led defensively by Faith Trenkle with 15 digs. Allie Schumacher led with 17 assists.

After a disappointing loss in the first round of the National Tournament, the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen faced off against the #13 Blinn College on Friday, Nov 18th. This one was a nail biting five set match with both teams' momentum going back and forth, even going into extra points in set one. However, the Plainswomen were unable to pull out the win and lost the five-set thriller. The Plainswomen finish their season 22-15 and top 16 in the Nation.

Breakdown: The Northeastern Volleyball team finished the season on a heartbreaking five set loss to Blinn College. The match began with set one going into extra points, but the Plainswomen were unable to make the set finish in their favor. However, this did not finish in three as both Blinn and Northeastern battled back and forth throughout the match taking it into a five-set thriller. The Plainswomen started down in set five but were able to climb back multiple times in order to stay alive. However, it was not enough as Blinn ended with the win, taking the Plainswomen out of the running to finish top 10 in the season. NJC was led offensively by Taylor Wiescamp with 16 kills. Defensively Northeastern was led by Annika Helf with 25 digs with Grace Yoder not far behind with 22 digs of her own. Allie Schumacher led in assists with 34 assists.
